Team USA and Team Canada will celebrate the 29th anniversary of the USA-Canada Junior Race Walk Match by competing on Rome, Georgia's Heritage Riverways Trail System, starting and finishing in the lower (east) parking lot of State Mutual Stadium. The course is a certified, sanctioned, record-eligible 1 k looped course, Participating athletes will compete in National championships in their respective countries. The top 5 male Junior race walkers and top 5 female Junior race walkers will be selected to compete in the Championship Race. Junior athletes are ages 14-19. Women will walk the 5K and men, the 10K. During odd years, the Match is held in the United States and during the even years, the event is held in Canada. This is only the second year that it has been held in the southeast; in 1998 it was held in Florida. In conjunction with this international meet, there will be several open race walk races. There will be an open women 5K race and an open men 10K, There will also be open 1K, 2K and 3K races for all age group and genders. Medals will be awarded to the top 3 in age group categories. In addition, Team USA and Team Canada, assisted by other Team USA Elite and/or Olympic race walkers will conduct a race walk clinic for anyone willing to try it on Saturday, at the Gary Tillman Memorial Clocktower Race and/or Sunday, at the USA-Canada Match. Participation ribbons will be awarded to those who participate in the clinic. There will also be a non-judged Fun Walk on Sunday in which those who attend either clinic are invited to participate. Participation medals will be awarded to participants in the Fun Walk!
